I don’t often push apps but Sauntering Verse is so much fun and connects last week’s poetry and this week’s Dada artwork. As you move the app uses your location and creates Dada poetry.
The Dada movement was short-lived, 8 years from 1916-1924, but shook the art and literature world to its core. It began after World War I in Zürich, Switzerland with a group of artists and writers in a tavern called Cabaret Voltaire. Dada was anti-war/anti- establishment movement. It became a conceptual art movement who questioned societies’ ideas of the role of the artist and the purpose of art itself. A key element was that the artists could incorporate chance and/or everyday objects into their art’s creation which went against the meticulous planning that went into previous traditional art forms. This process of chance and “everyday” challenged the idea of “where” is art produced and “what” is art. Dada became the fertile ground for Surrealism and the post modern art era.
I love this art form for a lot of reasons but probably because 60 years later I found myself drawn to the punk/new wave movement. Punk also started as a creative outlet to rage against the establishment. Punk used collage, established new art forms that redefined where and what is art – graffiti, used irony with a sense of humor, and re-opened the art/literature/music world’s arms to all types of people/art forms with a creative heart.
P.S. For fun I have attached some Dada art/artists to your signs which may have some insight for you. Remember, when signs have * it’s a big week for you.
*Aries – The Fool – Last week the Knight of Wands reminded you to have an adventure without expecting an outcome, and this week The Fool is here tell you to continue this trend. This is not a week for big decision-making but for experiencing. The Fool card’s lesson is to be in your life without judgment. The main challenge for you all with The Fool is – can you subtle change your life without trying to push or bully your way through a new experience? Or another way to put it – are you trying too hard and not just doing. Cut With a Kitchen Knife by Hannah Hoch
Taurus – Ten of Pentacles/Three of Cups – Ok, this week is a two card week. You have had some heavy work the past two weeks in dealing with what your new paradigm is going to be. So this week you got two cards to tell you to sit back and enjoy life. The Ten of Pentacles’ lesson is to see all that you have accomplished so far this year and the Three of Cups is telling you to raise your glass with some friends and celebrate it. You got two out of the three celebration cards in the tarot deck, because you all needed to beaten over the head to stop and enjoy life before you get back on the treadmill. This is a Taurus challenge because you are both a lover of cornucopia of life and work horse, so how can you balance both? Chinese Nightingale by Max Ernst
*Gemini – The Hangman – Ok, so” the trend of options are making you a bit stuck” continues from last week. The Hangman has arrived to help and give you a hint. The Hangman’s stagnation many times centers around trying to fit into someone else’s box or that feeling “what would people say.” Your inner self knows what it wants, so your challenge is to find your deep truth in your inner life and then bring it to your external life. This can be as simple as buying that Chewbacca mask for yourself (if you haven’t seen that video please click – Pure Joy– it will make you happy) or as complex as listening to your family friends or society at large tell you what you should do. God by Baroness Elsa von Freytag-Loringhoven and Morton Schamberg
Cancer – Five of Wands – This week try to not get into arguments. It is your need to be right that will get you into trouble. You probably are right but other people are not up to hearing what you have to say. So you do not have to argue or back down – just do what crabs do well – sidestep. Fountain by Marcel Duchamp
Leo – Ace of Cups – The Ace of Cups is asking you to not seize the day but accept it. The challenge for you is the more receptive you are to the gifts of your life the less stress you will feel. This concept is the hardest for fire signs. You feel if you have acceptance -represented by the water of the cups- this will douse the fires that typically spur your life on. This can play out as simply as being stuck in a traffic and you able to get some personal time to jam to your favorite songs, or as complex as seeing all the people – out of the blue – that helped you out this week. The Kiss by Man Ray
*Virgo – The Moon – This week more information is coming to you but by the moonlight of dreams, emotions, and the unconscious. One of The Moon’s lessons is to balance our untamed animalistic side and our domesticated side. Your challenge is to realize that because you push down your emotions – trying to domesticate them – that when they do come out they are all werwolfy. If you can let your emotions exist in the outside world without trying to tame them, you will find that your emotions are not some wild beast but just a cute pound puppy that has needs. Hugo Ball
*Libra – The Chariot – The lesson of The Chariot is self-controlled balance. This week The Chariot is asking you to take ownership of the change(s) you are making in your life. If you are feeling balanced then it is time to grab the reins and move forward. However, if you are feeling unbalanced, take this literally and/or metaphorically, it can be as simple as checking your tires’ air pressure, or middle ground – rotating your tires, or complex- getting a whole new set of tires. Here, This Is Stieglitz Here by Francis Picabia
Scorpio – Ten of Cups – Ten of Cups wants you to take time out this week to enjoy your life. The challenge for you is can you party lightly? So your experiment this week is – can you give yourself a little treat every day for the next seven days instead of one big blow out on the weekend? Master of Time by Raoul Hausmann
*Sagittarius – The Fool – You all seem to be on an esoteric role. First, two weeks ago Queen of Wands ask you to slow your gait to a walk, and then The High Priestess asked you to sit your butt down to listen to your inner voice. Hopefully you are now tuned into your soul’s Bluetooth. The Fool is here this week to say you can start-up again at a better pace while still needing to listen to your inner voice. Because some karmic stuff is coming your way this week and you need to hear what you soul is telling you to do with it, i.e.: duck, engage, run away… Merz Composition by Kurt Schwitters
Capricorn – Queen of Wands – Last week did you answer the questions: who are your teachers? What did they impart? And can you make it flexible enough to fit into your belief system and then teach that to someone else so it can fit into theirs? Now these are some heavy questions and the Queen of Wands advises you to still ponder them, but her challenge for you this week is to now make it so in your life. Or another way to put it – true teaching is a process of self discovery. Sophie Taeuber-Arp Dada head
*Aquarius – The Star – The Star is associated with your sign so this card has lots of lesson for you in your lifetime. However, this week is a week for you to learn to shine. The Star’s lesson is to believe in yourself and follow your inner voice. And it’s challenge is best said by this quote by Leonard Cohen’s Anthem There is a crack, a crack, in everything. That’s how the light gets in. So can you allow your “flawed” self to really shine? Jean Hans Arp untitled collage with squares arranged according to the laws of chance 1916-17
Pisces – Two of Swords – The last couple of weeks you have been practicing how to balance your life’s pace by learning when to shift gears. This week a decision(s) will come up that will test whether you got this lesson or not. The Two of Swords’ challenges you to answer – which road will you take and at what pace? The Archer by Theo van Doesburg
May light be on you, light around you, and light within you,
Nina
