Tarotcast for The Week of Feb. 4, 2018

Riitta Ikonen, Karoline Hjorth

This portrait is part of the ongoing series Eyes as Big as Plates a collaborative project between Riitta Ikonen, Karoline Hjorth and their models.   It started off as an exploration of Nordic folktales and ended up becoming a collaboration with farmers, fisherman, zoologists, plumbers, opera singers, housewives, academics to name a few from all over the world.  The models and artistic duo co-create the sculptures they wear.  The elements of the sculptures are collected from the landscapes of the photographs.

It is interesting that these artists collecting their models by just thinking of the most interesting people they knew.  And of course, they were led to picked people who have lived for a while on this Earth.  Who have a story to tell.  Who by just looking into their eyes or their stance you can see that they have the wisdom of living.

PS.  Happy birthday Aquarius.  Don’t forget it is a great time for you to get my  Astro Reading.

*Aries – Empress

Last week, the Emperor told you to build, create, and conquer.   Now the feminine version of that creative energy, the Empress, appears this week.  The Empress’s energy  is less of the hustle and bustle of Emperor last week energy and more about tending, grooming, and coaxing along your work.  The challenge with the Empress is being open to a more organic approach then sticking to plans.

Taurus – Ten of Pentacles

Riitta Ikonen, Karoline Hjorth The Ten of Pentacles brings prosperity to those that finish their work.  This card is about finishing up projects.  Your challenge is to work on the projects that are close to finish first, before starting anything new. You will find the more you can check off your list the more new prosperity will begin to grow.

Tarotcast for Week of Jan. 28, 2018

Joan Mitchell

Above and below are the paintings by Joan Mitchell an abstract expressionist painter and print maker. She is one of the few female painters of her era to gain critical claim.  This post World War II art movement was the first time America, specifically New York, was put as the center of the western art world instead of Paris. Abstract expressionist art tries to articulate the complexity of our heart and mind clashing, melding, bleeding into each other.  The internal human experience without the defined image.

PS. Don’t forget the signs with an * it is a big week for you.

*Aries – Emperor

The Emperor tells us to stop procrastinating.  This is a week to build new bridges, create new civilizations, to conquer your fear and just do it.  The challenge is believing you can and asking for help when you can’t.

Taurus – King of Swords

The King of Swords says now is the time. Your challenge this week is to walk your talk, so be careful what you promise. Your words are now as loud and important  as your actions.

Tarotcast for Week of Jan. 21, 2018

path of lord of the rings Andrew DeGraff

Saturn has just entered Capricorn. For many astrologers, this planet is one of the big markers in our lives.   Saturn changes signs around two and half years, and it takes it a full 29.5 years to get through all of the zodiac.  So in an average life span we get two or three tries with the lessons Saturn is trying to teach us.  Saturn hasn’t been in Capricorn since 1989, and this made me think about the path of our lives.  How we twist and turn, visit new places, and revisit old ones. How our course can traverse the world or encompass a street.

Andrew DeGraff‘s art work reflects my pondering of paths. Above and below are some of his pieces where he maps out the path(s) of one or several characters in a variety of movies.   He  is a freelance illustrator and artist living and working in Maine. He recently published his second book, Cinemaps: An Atlas of 35 Great Movies.  What details of your path would be on your art piece?

Can you guess which movie corresponds with your picture?

To find out the answer just click on the picture and open it in its own window .

Aries – Ten of Cups

path of back to the future

Last week, the Judgment card pointed out the new steps to take in your life.  This week the Ten of Cups wants you to add the concept of joy into your new life’s structure.  Your challenge is to be mindful of what makes you smile and do more of it.

Taurus – Three of Wands

path of ghostbusters

The Three of Wands is about action and planning.  Your challenge this week is getting things in place.  Big things are on the horizon are you ready for them?

Tarotcast for Week of Jan. 14, 2018

Above and below are the winning photographs of the annual Comedy in Wildlife contest. In our family we find these hilarious. But why do we laugh?  Scientist  have found that laughter decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies, thus improving your resistance to disease. Laughter triggers the release of endorphin, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals. Endorphin promote an overall sense of well-being and can even temporarily relieve pain.  It makes sense we developed laughter to relieve stress.

But why do we laugh at the things we do?  Writer Scot Weems researched a variety of science experiments about what makes a good joke in his book, Ha! The Science of When We Laugh and Why.  He found that what makes a great joke is “the kick of discovery or thinking one way and then and then suddenly turning that thing around.”  So whatever makes us confused or cause a conflict in our brain most likely will make us laugh.  This is why we may laugh at inappropriate times – like say at a funeral or at church. Laughter helps us get through stressful situations.  And one reason we all find different things funny even within our same culture is our threshold of confusion, conflict or stress varies from person to person.

On a side note the researcher Richard Wiseman found that overall the funniest animal to us is the duck.  Your challenge this week is to create some humor in your life.  I have added a joke starter that pertains to your picture have fun finishing it or making up your own.  Send them back to me if you want. I can always use a good laugh.

*Aries – Judgment

Comedy in wildlife - jokeThe Judgment card heralds it is time for you to take the next step in your evolution.  You are awakening to what new steps to take in your life.  This can look as simple as changing your diet or it can be as complex as decreasing your carbon footprint.  The challenge is whatever decisions you make – make sure they alter your life for the better – not only for you but the world.  Joke:  …so I gave him the flipper.

Taurus – Knight of Cups

Comedy in WildlifeLast week, the Empress challenged you to see the ends in beginnings and the beginnings in ends, and that it takes both to create growth.  This week the Knight of Cups carries on the Empress’ concept of duality by focusing on emotions.  The Knight of Cups challenges you to be aware on how you emote your emotions through action and movement.  This week see how your emotional actions cause reactions and your emotional reactions cause actions.  Joke:  …no, he did what…

Tarotcast for Week of January 7, 2018

This time of year in the northern hemisphere objects cast long shadows.  The piece above is by Lordes Castro who worked with variations of shadow representation for the next 3 decades.  She started off as a painter, but in the early 1960’s she joined up with a group called the Nouveaux Realistes.  Then began to work with shadows.  She used light sensitive silk screen to capture people, worked with layering acrylic cutouts of shadows to make the shadow 3-d, and light sensitive prints of plants shadows to represent our memories, and also shadow theater.

Shadows have always fascinated us.  As a kid we investigate our shadow by playing with it, trying to run away from it, waving at it, and like the above photo trying to separate ourselves from it.  As adults we do all these things still though metaphorically or through psycho-chat of working with the shadow self.  We continue to run from it, play with it and try to disconnect from it.  When our “shadow” is part of us too intertwined to be seen as something so two dimension as what is cast upon the ground.

PS.  Remember those signs with an *, it is a big week for you.  Also  this is a perfect time of the year for your Astrological Tarot Reading.

Aries – King of Cups

They say that boys don’t cry, but this card wants you to get in touch and express your emotions this week.  You might think being a King means to rule over your emotions with a tight fist.  However, this King says you find more strength and courage by being friends with your feelings.

*Taurus – Empress

The Empress is the card of Gaia, the supreme mother and creation.  I know we are in the middle of winter in the northern hemisphere and creation seems buried in the snow, but in the southern hemisphere it is in the middle of fertile season.  The Empress embodies this flow where there is death she balances it with life.  The Empress’ challenge is to look at this week’s events and see the death in life and the life in death.  It takes both to create growth.

Gemini – Page of Swords

The Page of Swords advises you do more investigating before making any decisions this week.  The Page of Swords challenges you to dig deeper, for the solution of the problem is out there.  It is just hidden and not in the obvious places.

Cancer – Five of Pentacles

The Five of Pentacles challenges us when times are rough to ask for help.  This week help is just around the corner.  You  just need to walk a few more steps to see it.

Leo – Eight of Swords

The Eight of Swords challenge is what binds you.  Last week the tarotcast asked you to leave behind your obstacles.  Thinking that you have to settle for “what is” is part of your challenge. Remember change can as easily begin with a thought as an action..

Virgo – Page of Pentacles

Page of Pentacles is the card of the student.  This week you need to put on your observation goggles and hearing aids to aid you in finding what is lacking or needed.   There are new skills for you to learn so you can solve a question or two with more ease.

Libra – Six of Wands

If it hasn’t recently happened already, you will win a victory this week., so take time to rest on your laurels at the beginning of the week.  Then by the end, your challenge will be to take stock of what you have and restock if necessary, for there is another skirmish around the corner.

Scorpio – King of Wands

This week take control of your surroundings.  King of Wands challenges you to rule your environment and deal with the people with justice and integrity.  This is a test whether you are ready to handle more power.

Sagittarius – Eight of Wands

Lots of information coming at you this week.  Your challenge is to sift through it and pick out the bits that are useful.  An exercise to make this easier is set an intention and use only the information that pertains to it.  Motto: One intention at a time.

Capricorn – Four of Wands

Time to work on or in your home.  The challenge this week is to stoke the fires of your hearth and heart.  Your goal is to daydream, create and get comfy in your home. If you can’t to make your home a place where you can reconnect to yourself with ease, then find a substitute structure whether that is your car, a cafe or the park.

*Aquarius – Strength

The Strength card advises you to look within, see your strength then strengthen your sense of self.  This challenge can look as simple as doing a contemplative exercise like yoga that also works your core, or as complex as writing a list of your accomplishments.  As the film director and producer Billy Wilder said “You are as good as the best thing you have done.”

Pisces – Five of Swords

There will be chaos this week that will be hard to avoid.  The Five of Swords advises the best thing is to stay out of it as long as you can, realize most of it is due to outside influences, and observe before stepping into it.  This is like playing Double Dutch with five jump-ropes instead of two.

May light be on you, around you, and within you,

Leaving Behind 2017 and Welcoming 2018 Tarotcast

Leaving Behind

This tarotcast is short and sweet.  On New Year’s Day many of us set up resolutions or we wish for a thing to manifest in our new year.  And last week, the tarot gifted something to carry forward into 2018.  However, the first law of thermodynamics says that energy cannot be created or destroy, or that energy in its totality remains the same. Therefore for you to gain something, you must leave something behind.  This tarotcast is dedicated to creating detritus in 2017 to open up space for the new in 2018.

The ritual I suggest for tonight is to get rid of something.  With that thought in mind, I pulled a card and picked one or two words that can help you start the process of evaluating what you no longer need or use and leave it behind.

Talk to you all next year.

Tarotcast for the Week of December 17, 2017

From Winter Solstice to New Years, I reflect back on what has been and plan for what is to be. Also, I’m data geek. I keep excel sheets on the tarotcast’s cards each sign gets throughout the year. So, this tarotcast is dedicated to our rearview mirror view of the 2017.

I look at the data in two ways, how many times each card was pulled (for anomalies) and what the actual cards were for each sign (trends). For fun I want to see if the data show some statistical difference and or trends, and so far it has. This means that certain cards get pulled outside the average, (which this year was 7.5 times) in a 12 month period. Now, to be truly scientific I would have to do this for many years and I am only on year two, but let’s see how this works with the data I have so far. (You can see 2016 year in review tarotcast here.)

Overall, 2017 had less high and lows than last year. The Aces (beginnings) averaged out to the same this year as last, but 2016 had more 10s cards (endings) then 2017. The Magician reigned in 2017. He challenged us to change the world around us and align it more to how we would like our world to be. This year at the Magician’s best was about the self, experimentation and what can I personal manifest into my life. And at worst was about greed, deceit, manipulation and using one’s skills and abilities for negative ends. The “Me Too” movement is a great example of how both sides of this card played out in society.

There were more “least pulled” cards (2 times) this year than last year: 4 swords, 5 of cups, 8 of Pentacles, Knight of Pentacles, and King of Cups. I see these as areas where we did not have enough. Overall we haven’t had enough healing emotionally and mentally, nor have we had enough mastery of the skills we need to feel at ease.

The card pulled the most was the Ace of Wands (17 times) same as last year that has us once again asking ourselves the big philosophical questions of why we are here, and what do we stand for. The Eight of Wands (17 times) also ranked high this year. This card means we were inundated with news and messages and needed to decipher which messages information was relevant and useful.

Then I looked at each signs trends and that is below. The pics are my  top  12  tarotcast’s pics. Photo by Charles Pinion.

Aries

Believe it or not this has been an average year when compared to the rest of the signs but how it played out was a bit hard. The beginning of 2017 was laid back until about April then you were full on throughout the summer. You had a small respite in September, but you were back in the saddle again the rest of the year. Creating and maintaining structure was the theme that challenged you 2017

Taurus

Even though this was an average year of intensity, people, endings and beginnings, you haven’t had a month which hasn’t had something big going on. All of the big change cards and the most knights (movement) visited you more than any other sign in 2017. Therefore, your big trends were around change mostly outside of your control and how to keep moving forward. You all handled it but I hope 2018 brings you a smaller to do list and more spaces to breath.

Gemini

You had a big karma year in 2017 which played out with you coming in second on the having the most high arcane cards (15). Lucky for you the timing worked in your favor with a month on and a month off all year. However, you have been living out your two lives maybe a bit too well. So your Strength (maintaining it) was your big challenge this year. Hopefully, 2018 will have you living one life instead of two.

Cancer

You had an average year with its up and downs. However, the first part of your year was crammed packed until March. You had a nice lull until July then you were off running until November. And you are ending the year with a bang. The High Priestess was your theme this year and next. She came to you each quarter and for your birthday yea reading challenging you to weave spirituality in your life.

Leo

This year started and ended with a bang for you all even though you average the same amount of stuff that the other signs went through. The Empress hung-out with you more than any sign this year. She challenged you to examine and expand how nurturing and mothers are in or not in your life. .

Virgo

You all had the lowest karma cards this year but the highest pulls for Aces (new beginnings). Meaning, this year you have been trying on a lot of hats in all the parts of your life. However, you were one of the two signs that did not try out the Magician hat this year. All these components lead to 2017 being a year of experimentation instead of manifestation.

Libra

Like 2016 you had more than average amount of people in your life compared to other signs, but overall this was an average year for you. Your big theme was the Emperor which challenge you to Do it.   This is a card of business and how you make your wealth. Though with all the people you have been dealing with, it also was a challenging year on expressing your authority and maintaining your boundaries.

Scorpio

This was an average karmic year for you though most of the big stuff you dealt happened from January to April. You were last on the list of getting aces -new beginnings (only one).   However, that was due to the Empress and Magician via for your attention throughout 2017. They challenged you to experiment and grow what you already had in process instead of creating new projects.

Sagittarius

You had an average time this year with big themes, people, beginnings and endings. You started off the year with a lot on your plate then had a nice break from February through March. Then for the rest of the year, you tackled a new big idea about once a month. You grab on to the Magician’s big theme this year by visiting with him more than any other sign (3 times). This was a year of you experimenting to discover and manifest new ways of creating the world you want.

Capricorn

You come in second, having the most Higher arcane cards to deal with this year. They were all helping you with your most visited themes of tearing down (the Tower) and building back better structures (the Hierophant) in your life. Hopefully, you have done most of the that work in 2017 so next year you can settle into your newly built life.

Aquarius

Well Aquarius you had the highest amount of higher arcane cards (karmic) this year. This year was a big one for you. You biggest themes were with the Devil card (4 times) and the Magician (3 times). The Devil had you dealing with your negativity, feeling stuck and thinking you do not have control. The Devil usually shows up right before one gains enlightenment to test your resolve and strength. The Magician balanced you out by having you experiment and think outside the box to free you from where you felt stuck. With all this hard soul work this year, 2018 should be a breeze.

Pisces

This year fell in the averaged range with big themes, people and endings, but came in second in having eight Aces (beginnings) in 2017. Your most visited cards were Emperor and the Hierophant this year. The Aces and these two dudes challenged you to create better structures, make yourself a better provider, and generate more prestige in your work. This was a year of doing to give you a step up into a better place for 2018.

May light be on you, around you, and within you,

Nina
