Happy Birth-month Sagittarius.   The artist highlighted this art-cast is Mastura Abdul Rahman @mastura_abdul_rahman.  She is a multimedia artist and painter.

To be forthright, Rahman’s account is in Malaysian, and I can’t not get my translator app to work on Instagram and Google is useless.  I would love to read what she says, and then convey a part to you so you can hear the artist’s voice and ideas and not mine. So, this time you just have me and my impressions.

The reason I am drawn to her work is that she creates art that lifts the concept of ornate and can literally challenge the viewers’ perspective, as in her Interiors series.  Ornate is defined as made in an intricate shape or decorated with complex patterns.  The judgement of ornate like many things is cultural.  It can be homy, soothing, interesting, chichi, rich, ostentatious, claustrophobic…  But to me Rahman paints the kind of ornate garden I hope to grow in my life rich in color, full of cats, owls and hidden treasures and trinkets.

Solar System highlights

The moon begins in Cancer self-care becomes the focus.  On Thursday the moon moves into Leo – spotlight on our super-powers.  And then for the weekend, it moves into Virgo – helping us get our surroundings clean and organized.  On Monday November 25th the moon is in Libra – harmony is key.  On November 28th it moves into Scorpio- watch overindulgences.  And for the weekend the moon will be in Sagittarius – great for exploration.

Mercury is in Sagittarius until January 8th, 2025.  This is due to its retrograde from November 26th to December 15th.    This is a 9-week exploration of big ideas, truth seeking and growth in communication. The challenge is being blunt or soapboxing.    And remember during the retrograde season it is the best time to recharge, reflect and redo.

Venus is in Sagittarius until December 7th. This is a time for exploration and growth around the concepts of love, beauty and harmony.

Mars is now in Leo until Jan 6th, 2025.  This aspect is fiery – great for getting things done but be careful around egotism in yourself and others.  This is not a time to start a fight!

Our longer aspects: Jupiter, the planet of abundance and growth, is in Gemini until June of 2025.   This placement is here to help us work with opportunities to grow and succeed through intellectual, verbal, and written pursuits.  However, we must also watch its challenging aspects:   not following through, gossip, too much information and fickleness.   And lastly Saturn is in Pisces until February 2026 teaching us how to be more fluid and inclusive in our structures.

Lastly, Pluto moves into Aquarius for the next 14 years on November 20th.  So, where the last 15 years Pluto was in Capricorn we as society explored the shadowy side of karma, fame, authority, jobs, business, politics and status. Now we move to Aquarius’s shadowy side of luxury, groups and organizations, innovation, technology, and revolution. Look to where Aquarius is in your natal chart to see what aspects to focus on personally.  It is not all “shadow” with Pluto; there are also jewels brought up from these deep excursions in the darker realms.

Knight of Earth – The Muse of Pace is with you for the next two weeks.  She comes when you need to pace what you do appropriately for the situation and yourself.  The key is if you must sprint then take a restorative break before starting up again.  However, if you are doing a slow steady marathon, then hydration and a steady pace is vital to finish the race.  She advises that before starting an endeavor decide what kind of pace you need and prepare accordingly.  And do not rush unless necessary and especially if you are not sure where to go next.

Seven of Earth – The Muse of Harvest is with you the next two weeks.  She advises that the easier path for now is to finish projects than start new ones.  She is here as your cheerleader.  So, look to what you have had on the back burners and bring them forward.  You will have even more time to complete tasks during the coming retrograde.  However, this muse foretells you will have a lot on your plate until the end of the year and the coming weeks are a good time to clean at least a portion of it.

Page of Water – The Muse of Joy is hanging with you for the next two weeks.   This Muse often comes when your emotional cups need filling, but you have forgotten how. She reminds you that you need to feed your inner child to therefore realign to your joy.  This can be done with art: finger painting and crayons help to get there. Or playing in water or dirt or both.  Riding a bike or skating.  She suggests finding something to do that has no goals but is done just for the joy of it.

She challenges you to make your goals reach a bit farther and broader.  How can you step into the mover, shaker, influencer role? Spirit of Water – The Muse of Humor is here to remind you that laughter is the best medicine.  For the next two weeks watch comedies, go to stand-up, hang out with friends that have the same humor as you.  That can be puns, sarcasm, slapstick etc….  Now for some of you the simple path to humor may be harder.  So, if you fall into that fishbowl, the muse suggests anger as your highway to humor.  That exercise can be yelling into the wind until you are exhausted, smash rooms, working a punching bag, etc.

The artist, singer and inventor this week is Margaret Watts Hughes.  Hughes invented a device, the eidophone (from the Greek eido-to see and phone- voice/sound).  She found that with this device and powder, seeds or sand, she could see the geometrics of her voice and the notes themselves to create shapes.  Hughes called these voice-figures or voice flowers.   She then used colored glycerin on a glass plate.  And from that she sang the above and below pictures into existence.

Your pondering:  How lucky we are to be in a time when sound is recorded.  We can listen to a song or someone’s voice without the confines time.  But I often wonder because we can hear it again, do we lose the preciousness of it when it is happening the first time.  What would it have been like to hear a song only once?

Solar System highlights

The moon begins this week in Scorpio – follow your passion.  Then on Tuesday it moves into Sagittarius – go exploring.    On Thursday it moves into Capricorn – use this energy to get things.  On Saturday the Moon moves into Aquarius – time to daydream.  Monday Sept. 16th it moves into Pisces – start the week by going with the flow.  On Wednesday Sept. 18th the moon is in Aries – a great time to start a project.  And we finish with the moon in Taurus on Friday – enjoy and savor the good things in life.

Tarot and Art-Cast for week of Jan 28, 2024

As some of you know my life has changed a bit from the past 9 years.  We moved to a new state and my mom now lives with us. She is transitioning to a phase where she needs more care. We, myself, my partner, and a team of amazing aides, are caring for my mom at home. Thus, my time to write, do readings, and just breathe has become more finite and something must give.  I need to do tarot readings.  Not only because I love doing them and they give me a place to connect with my spirit and you all, but they are my means of monetary sustenance.   So, I either raise my prices so I can do less readings and keep writing weekly or keep my readings more affordable and do less writing which I would like to keep as a free resource.  I have decided to try the latter and do tarotcast every 2 weeks from now until the end of February and reassess then.  Thanks as always for patronizing the passenger’s seat while we ponder and admire the scenery.

The artist this week is Camila Reis @cammiereis.  She works in 2D Animation, character design, illustration, and storytelling.  Not much background on her other then I personally own four of her prints. Because I have a thing about dryads and her animations always bring me joy.  So, I would like to share her art.  Hint: I would love it if someone would collaborate with her and make a dryad oracle deck.

Solar System highlights

The moon begins the week in Virgo – an organized way to start the week.   On Tuesday it moves into Libra – move the focus to relationships. On Friday and through the weekend it’s in Scorpio – work on or with things that ignite your passions.  Then the moon moves in Sagittarius on Sunday- start exploring alternative avenues.  On Tuesday it moves into Capricorn, so the next three days are perfect for getting things done.  Then on Friday and the weekend it is in Aquarius great for innovation.

Mercury is back in Capricorn to implement what you have learned in the past 3 months around communication.  Mars (action) is in Capricorn (discipline) until February 14th.  This is a great time to get things checked off your to do list.  While Venus also has moved into Capricorn wanting you to act on how to bring more beauty and harmony into your life. Tarot and Art-Cast for week of July 23, 2023

The artist this week is Rowena Meeks Abdy.  Abdy was an American Modernist painter who primarily painted the landscapes of California.  Her street scenes and landscapes in oils, watercolors and mixed-media drawings appeared in over fifty exhibitions throughout California from 1908 to the mid-1940s.  She also illustrated two books On the Ohio and Old California.  These are now considered examples of historical landscape that give us a peek into earlier eras of each region.

Your pondering for the week:  The last 10 years of her career she stopped using the “color” white.  If you had to take away a color, what would it be?  For me it would be bubblegum pink. (Yeah Barbie™, I said it).

The artist this week is Simone Leigh, @simoneyvetteleigh.  Leigh works in a variety of media including sculpture, installations, video, performance, and social practice to foreground black female experience.  She describes her work as auto-ethnographic extracting figures and architectural forms in bronze, ceramic, and raffia that reference sources from Pan-African culture.  Often, she combines “premodern techniques and materials—including lost-wax casting, salt-fired ceramics, and terracotta—with potent cultural iconographies such as cowrie shells, plantains, and tobacco.   As she has written “I am charting a history of change and adaptation, through objects and gesture and the unstoppable forward movement of Black women.”

The artist this week is Radim Schreiber.  Schreiber is a photographer and videographer.  His main subjects are insects but for the past 15 years it has been fireflies.  It wasn’t until 2008 did the technology evolve so he could photographs his subjects.  He now can use standard photography techniques and with no flash.  Fireflies hold a special place in our hearts, and it is Schreiber’s vision in his words: “I believe that fireflies open doors to joy, magic, and deep connection with nature.  It is my mission to use the latest technology to represent fireflies in the best light possible, understand and communicate their message to the world.”

The Lampyridae are a family with more than 2,000 species. They are soft-bodied beetles commonly called fireflies, lightning bugs, or glowworms for their conspicuous production of light, mainly during twilight, to attract mates.  Fireflies are found in temperate and tropical climates, usually in areas that are damp or have a close water source.  While all known fireflies’ glow as larvae, only some species produce light in their adult stage, and the location of the light organ varies among species and between sexes of the same species.

It is not just the magic of their glow heralding the beginning of summer, but also fireflies’ light-producing talent, luciferase, that has provided invaluable tools for improving public health, for facilitating innovative research, and for advancing medical knowledge. Beginning in the 1960’s it was used as detection of noxious bacteria in food.  Then when the genetic blueprint for luciferase was decoded in the 1990s it has been used to detect cancer, genetic activation, and helps in deciphering when a drug is working on a disease.

The artist this week is Willard Wiggan, @willard_wiggan .  He has a show at Wollaton Hall Nottingham, UK, which houses the Nottingham Natural History Museum from April to October 2023.  Wiggan’s show “Disappearing World” is collection of sculptures that highlight endangered animals and the loss of biodiversity.  All his sculptures are viewed through microscopes and many within the eye of a needle.   For Wiggan is an artist of the small and minutia.  He sculpts and paints the world’s smallest art pieces.  He has been honored by the Guinness book of world records twice.

Wiggan’s show illuminates that not only every species matters but also if all of us do small acts of conservation we can make a difference.  In his words, “My micro-sized sculptures convey a bigger message to humanity.  An artful reminder that our world is disappearing, we need to act, and make changes.
